Monuta Home

This project was established together with the A Re Ikageng women's club in Elandsdoorn. This group has been in existence since 1973 and is a women's empowerment group, which used to work from their homes. From a donation received, a self-help project was created for elderly people and they were provided with a day-care centre.

This project is a good example of a one-off donation being used to create an infrastructure that was then handed over to the community. A Re Ikageng received the donation and is now functioning much better in its own building.

Elandsdoorn Development Trust acted as facilitator between the donor and the receiver. Through the Trust, the Monuta Home was built at little cost and much of the investment has been flowing back into the local economy.
