The Ndlovu Nappy Factory (NNF)
In October 2004 a second hand nappy factory was purchased and put into operation on the premises of the medical centre. Two unemployed ladies from the PMTCT (prevention of mother-to-child transmission) programme were employed and trained in running the factory. Besides the manufacturing of the nappies, they are also responsible for promotion and sales of the nappies in and around Elandsdoorn Town . In April 2005 two more ladies found employment in the nappy factory.
The objectives of this project are creating employment and making disposable nappies available for the community. The disposable nappies are much easier to use than the old (cloth) nappies, which need to be washed and dried before they can be used again.
The nappies are produced in all sizes, from newborn, small, medium, large, extra large up to adult nappies. The adult nappies are mainly used for very ill (Aids) patients who cannot get out of their beds.
