Hugo and Liesje Tempelman

Liesje and Hugo Tempelman, a Dutch professional nurse and a doctor, arrived in South Africa in 1990. Dr Tempelman worked for the Department of Health in KwaNdebele for four years, first as a medical officer and later as the Assistant Superintendent of Philadelphia Hospital in Dennilton. Dr Tempelman worked at the Department of Health as head of Paramedical Services and was responsible for the development of primary health-care facilities. In 1994, Liesje and Hugo Tempelman built their own medical clinic, Ndlovu Medical Centre, in Elandsdoorn , Mpumalanga . They created a trust for community health projects (Ndlovu Medical Trust) and a trust for community development projects (Elandsdoorn Development Trust) in Moutse, also in Mpumalanga .

Since 1998 the team has been strengthened by Dr Peter Schrooders, a medical doctor who previously worked in the former Transkei for a period of seven years. Dr Robert Moraba and Dr Papi Maetisa joined NMC in 2004.

In April 2005 Liesje and Hugo Tempelman were both rewarded for their work with a royal distinction. The Dutch Queen, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix , has ordained them as “Ridder in de Orde van Oranje- Nassau ”.
