At approximately 30 kilometer distance from Ndlovu Medical Centre we find Loskop Dam Nature Reserve, a beautiful reserve resorting under the management of Mpumalanga Parks Board. It is the aim of Friends of Loskop to assist them as much as possible in order to preserve this beautiful piece of nature for the children of our children.

One of the projects of Friends of Loskop is an environmental education project, set up for grade 6 children in the primary schools in the district of Moutse.

The educational programme started in 2003. It aims at educating the children in the communities surrounding Loskop Dam Nature Reserve (LDNR) so that pupils and teachers return to their schools with more respect and understanding for nature, and nature conservation. It also aims at taking the children out to a beautiful nature reserve, and show them the beauty of nature.

In 2003, 1524 children from 15 schools visited the reserve. In 2004, 1493 children from 16 schools visited the reserve. In 2005, 3241 grade 6 children from 42 schools but also 973 grade R children from 30 pre-schools visited the reserve.

The Lapa which is being used as an open-air classroom in the reserve was build with the financial assistance from the Alfred Jodokus Kwak Foundation and the Herman van Veen Foundation from the Netherlands .
